Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as an unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy through respect for electoral institutions and non-interference in electoral processes.
Akume made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the national headquarters of the City Boy Movement.
The SGF, according to his media adviser, Yomi Odunuga, described Tinubu as a true democrat who allows democratic institutions to operate independently without undue executive influence.
Akume cited the recent election in Osun State as evidence of the President’s commitment to electoral integrity, noting that Tinubu did not interfere with the outcome of the poll.
He said the approach represented a significant departure from practices of the past and provided an example of democratic leadership.
The SGF also highlighted the administration’s economic and institutional reforms, including ongoing tax reforms aimed at establishing a unified tax system and creating a more efficient and transparent fiscal environment.
On national unity, Akume urged Nigerians to view the country’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity as a source of strength rather than division.
He called on citizens and political groups to shun divisive rhetoric, support the administration’s reform agenda and contribute to national development.
Earlier, Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Shoga Francis, thanked the SGF for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of the administration’s engagement with young Nigerians and grassroots stakeholders.
Shoga reaffirmed the movement’s support for the Renewed Hope Agenda and announced plans for an ambitious voter registration and mobilisation drive targeting young Nigerians.
