President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage involving prayers and spiritual reflection.

The President left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday afternoon for the holy city.

According to the Presidency, the trip is intended to provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection and prayers for Nigeria.

Tinubu is expected to pray for the country’s peace, unity and progress during the religious exercise.

Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year, unlike Hajj, which takes place during a specific period in the Islamic calendar.

The President is expected to return to Nigeria after completing the Umrah rites.
