The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to provide daily photo and video evidence of his presence in Saudi Arabia during his planned trip for the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah.
Atiku made the demand in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Media Aide, Phrank Shaibu, shortly after the Presidency announced that Tinubu would depart Abuja for Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
The former Vice President argued that Nigerians deserve to know the whereabouts of their President at all times, insisting that regular updates from the President would help address concerns about his absence from the country.
According to Atiku, Tinubu should avoid disappearing from public view, as he alleged had happened during previous occasions, and provide daily visual evidence confirming his presence in the holy land.
“Provide daily photo, video proof,” Atiku said.
The challenge comes amid renewed political exchanges between the opposition and the Presidency over the President’s activities and public visibility while travelling outside Nigeria.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had yet to respond to Atiku’s demand.
