The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Nigeria Police Force for their decisive response to the growing threat of banditry and kidnapping along the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore corridor.
In a statement titled, “Afenifere Commends Security Chiefs and Governors for Decisive Action Against Banditry and Kidnapping on the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore Road,” the group praised the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, alongside the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos States, Bode Ojajuni and Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, for their coordinated security operations that have significantly improved safety along the highway.
The letter, signed by Afenifere’s National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, on behalf of the organisation’s leader and Asiwaju of Yorubaland, Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, described the Inspector-General’s leadership as strategic and intelligence-driven, noting that it has strengthened the fight against organised crime.
According to Afenifere, the unwavering political support provided by Governors Abiodun and Sanwo-Olu created an enabling environment for security agencies to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibilities.
The organisation stated that the prompt collaboration between the two state governments and security agencies had restored public confidence in the safety of commuters and residents within the affected areas.
It further noted that the successful operation demonstrated the importance of purposeful leadership, professional policing and strong inter-state collaboration in tackling violent crimes.
Afenifere specifically applauded CP Bode Ojajuni for his operational understanding of the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore axis, while commending CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai for deploying specialised personnel, logistics and operational equipment that contributed significantly to the success of the mission.
Reaffirming its commitment to the security of the South-West, the organisation declared that the region would remain hostile to kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements.
“The message is unequivocal: ‘Kò sí àyè’—there is no place for evil in Yorubaland. Those who seek to threaten the peace, security and prosperity of our people will continue to face the full weight of the law. The Yoruba people remain profoundly grateful for this exemplary display of courage, dedication and public service,” the statement read.
The commendation follows a recent joint operation by personnel of the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands, which led to the rescue of five kidnapped victims less than 24 hours after they were abducted along the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore Highway. The operation also resulted in the neutralisation of several suspected kidnappers and the arrest of others.
