The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in the sum of ₦200 million.
Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Muhammad Umar ordered Sowore to provide two sureties. One of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the other must own landed property within Abuja.
The court further directed the prosecution to verify the credentials of both sureties before the bail conditions can be perfected.
Justice Umar also ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of his trial.
Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.
The case was adjourned after proceedings on June 24, with June 30 fixed for its continuation to allow the court to hear further arguments and address pending applications.
Earlier, the court revoked the bail previously granted to Sowore on self-recognition in December 2025 after he failed to appear at an earlier hearing. The court subsequently ordered his remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
