The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, warning that terrorism and banditry have spread from the North to communities close to his residence.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Adeboye lamented that the country’s insecurity has reached an alarming level, while those allegedly responsible for sponsoring the violence continue to move freely.
“It is so bad that people are asking, ‘Where is your God?’ The terrorism, kidnappings and other atrocities that were once confined to the North are now happening right near my home,” he said.
The respected cleric also expressed concern that individuals believed to be financing terrorism and banditry remain untouched by law enforcement.
Adeboye disclosed that he recently discussed the security situation with President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in the RCCG.
According to him, he advised the President to issue a firm directive to the military leadership, giving them a 90-day deadline to eliminate the menace or resign from their positions.
“I told him to give the military officers 90 days. Wipe out this rubbish or resign. Then go after the supporters and the sponsors,” Adeboye stated.
He further alleged that influential politicians and businessmen are among those funding terrorist and bandit groups, insisting that the government must focus on dismantling the financial networks sustaining the violence.
“Some of them are businessmen. Some are politicians. Go after them. If you don’t deal with those supplying weapons, ammunition and funding, the insecurity will continue,” he added.
Adeboye maintained that targeting the financiers of terrorism is critical to ending the country’s prolonged security challenges.
