Abuja, Nigeria — Security operatives on Thursday allegedly attempted to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, upon his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, his media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, has claimed.
In a statement released shortly after the incident, Adekeye said the former governor had just returned from Cairo when security agents approached him at the airport.
According to the statement, El-Rufai declined to accompany the operatives, insisting on a formal written invitation or warrant. Adekeye further alleged that the agents subsequently seized the former governor’s international passport from one of his aides.
“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo,” the statement read. “Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation. They, however, snatched his passport from an aide.”
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the security agencies regarding the alleged incident.
