No fewer than 4,500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State.

The defectors were formally received on Thursday at the Manpower Development Institute (MDI) in Dutse, the state capital, during a ceremony attended by party leaders and supporters.

Speaking at the event, APC chieftain Hon. Adamu Indallah said the defectors attributed their decision to the party’s “good leadership at all levels,” adding that the APC’s governance style had continued to attract members from across the political divide.

Indallah noted that many of the defectors were prominent figures in the opposition parties who joined the APC alongside their supporters to back the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi in the 2027 general elections. He assured party members of his continued support to strengthen the APC’s prospects ahead of the polls.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, a former NNPP stalwart and former candidate for the Buji Local Government and State Assembly elections, Engr. Balarabe Umar, said their decision was driven by what he described as the visionary, people-centred and results-oriented leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Namadi.

Umar said the implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, in alignment with Governor Namadi’s 12-point development blueprint, had begun to yield tangible socio-economic benefits, particularly in livelihood improvement, youth empowerment and inclusive governance.

He reaffirmed the loyalty of the new APC members and pledged their total commitment to working for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Namadi in the 2027 general elections.
