Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has praised the governments of Mali and Burkina Faso over their decision to impose visa bans and travel restrictions on citizens of the United States.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, Sani described the move as bold and symbolic, insisting that no country holds a monopoly over “madness” in international relations.
Recall that the governments of Mali and Burkina Faso recently announced travel restrictions on American nationals, a development widely seen as a response to visa bans and restrictions earlier imposed by the United States under former President Donald Trump’s administration.
Reacting to the development, Sani commended Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger for what he termed a courageous act of retaliation, saying it marked a proud moment for the African continent.
“The courageous decision by the governments of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger to retaliate against Mr Trump’s visa ban and restrictions is a proud moment for Africa,” Sani wrote.
He further added that Africans who distance themselves from their roots or seek validation from imperial powers would still not be accepted by far-right ideologies.
“No matter how the black man tries to disown and demean his country, and lick the boots of imperialism, he will never be embraced or loved by the ideologically far right,” he said.
