Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez is currently joint-top scorer at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco following the conclusion of the group stage match-day fixtures played on Wednesday.
Mahrez has scored two goals so far in the tournament, sharing the top spot with Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson and Tunisia forward Elias Achouri.
The former Manchester City winger was in inspired form as he netted a brace in Algeria’s dominant 3–0 victory over Sudan on Wednesday. Jackson also scored twice in Senegal’s win against Botswana on Tuesday, while Achouri grabbed two goals in Tunisia’s convincing victory over Uganda on the same day.
With the group stage match-day two fixtures set to begin on Friday, the race for the Golden Boot is already taking shape.
