Lagos – A Toyota Hiace bus collided with a train on Monday night at Arena, Oshodi, Lagos, but miraculously, no casualties were reported, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed.

According to a preliminary report issued by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, and dated December 23, 2025, the agency immediately activated its emergency response plan following distress alerts received at 7:53 PM via its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines. The response team was dispatched from the agency’s Cappa Base in Oshodi and arrived at the scene by 8:11 PM.

The report revealed that a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGL-671-XR was struck by an oncoming train after the bus driver reportedly drove recklessly outside the Arena shopping complex.

“Preliminary investigation conducted by the agency’s response team revealed that the immediate cause of the incident was due to reckless driving by the Toyota Hiace bus driver, which left the bus stuck on the rail tracks,” LASEMA stated.

Despite the severity of the collision, there were no injuries, though the bus sustained significant damage.

LASEMA confirmed that its team conducted a thorough risk assessment and implemented safety measures to prevent further incidents. Train operations were temporarily halted to allow for the safe evacuation of the bus, which was later removed and towed to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yard in Oshodi.

“The rail track has been cleared and normal activities restored. The recovery operation has been successfully concluded,” the agency added.

The coordinated response involved LASEMA officials from Cappa Base and LASTMA officers, ensuring the swift resolution of the potentially dangerous situation.
