Nobody Will Use Us to Negotiate — Wike Warns Amid PDP Power Struggle

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned against being used as a bargaining chip in the ongoing crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that he will not be part of any backdoor negotiations or political trade-offs.

Wike, who spoke on Friday in Abuja during a meeting with Concerned PDP Stakeholders, expressed concern over what he described as the internal rot within the party. He warned that attempts to hijack the PDP’s leadership under the guise of reconciliation would be resisted.

“Let me be clear, nobody—and I mean nobody—will use us to negotiate for anything,” Wike declared. “We are part of this party; we have sacrificed for it. But we will not allow anybody to trade us off for personal gain. Those of us fighting today are not doing so for ourselves. We are doing it because we want the PDP to stand for something—for due process, fairness, and respect for law.”

His comments came after the Abuja Federal High Court halted the PDP’s planned national convention, which was scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Justice James Omotosho, in his ruling, barred the opposition party from proceeding with the convention, citing a case filed by three aggrieved members. The court directed the PDP to revisit its internal issues and comply with the mandatory 21-day notice before convening any national convention.

The ruling has deepened the party’s internal crisis, as factions within the PDP continue to jostle for control ahead of the 2027 general elections.
