OSOGBO – The Osun State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has formally endorsed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The party also intensified efforts to attract members and structures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into its fold as part of preparations for future electoral contests.
The endorsement was announced following the conclusion of the party’s primary elections, during which candidates emerged for National Assembly and State Assembly positions across federal and state constituencies in Osun State.
Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Adewale Adebayo, disclosed that Governor Makinde received overwhelming support across the state’s 332 wards.
Adebayo described the outcome of the primary elections as a reflection of unity, consensus, and collective commitment among party members.
“In every generation, political movements survive not only through competition but also through cohesion, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose. Today, the APM is sending that message clearly and boldly,” he said.
According to him, the affirmation of candidates across various elective positions demonstrates the party’s confidence in credible leadership and its determination to advance as a united political force.
“The endorsement of our candidates reflects the confidence of the party in credible leadership and our commitment to moving forward as one united political family. Sometimes, the strongest democracy is not found in division but in agreement built on trust, consultation, and a common vision,” Adebayo stated.
Announcing the presidential endorsement, he said Governor Makinde emerged as the sole presidential aspirant of the party and was consequently affirmed as the APM’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
“Following the successful conduct of our primaries, we have affirmed His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement for the 2027 general election,” he declared.
Adebayo noted that the affirmation process was conducted peacefully across all 332 wards in the state without any form of disruption or controversy.
He further revealed that the party had activated reconciliation mechanisms to engage aggrieved members and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
The APM also extended an invitation to PDP members and other Nigerians to join its ranks, describing the party as a viable platform for strengthening opposition politics and advancing democratic ideals in the country.
