NYCN Warns Youths Against ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu’ Protest

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has cautioned Nigerian youths against joining the planned Free Nnamdi Kanu protest scheduled for October 20, 2025.

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by Barr. Buhari Shehu, Chairman of the NYCN Interim Management Committee, the council warned that the protest could lead to a breakdown of law and order across the country.

The group referenced a recent advisory from the United States Embassy in Abuja, which urged American citizens to steer clear of the protest, as well as a Federal High Court order reportedly obtained by the Nigerian Police restraining organizers from proceeding with the demonstration.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Nigerian Police Force, has secured an order restraining the organizers from carrying out or participating in the planned protest,” the statement read in part.

The NYCN urged youths to remain calm, law-abiding, and prioritize peace and stability over confrontation.

“We implore all Nigerian youths to stay out of trouble and avoid any activity that could endanger lives or property,” the statement added. “We encourage alternative, lawful avenues for expressing grievances.”

Reaffirming its commitment to youth welfare and national unity, the council stressed that safeguarding Nigeria’s peace must remain a collective responsibility.

“We have no other country than Nigeria,” the NYCN concluded. “Let us all stay safe, stay informed, and work together for a stable and prosperous nation.”
