ABUJA — Abdulmumin Jibrin, lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has hinted that he may soon part ways with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), saying he is free to chart his own political course.
Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa, Jibrin acknowledged that the Kwankwasiyya movement paved the way for his return to the National Assembly in 2023, but stressed that he too made sacrifices for the party.
“The party itself has said it is open to negotiations with other parties, but I don’t have to strictly follow that path,” he said.
Jibrin, however, maintained that even if he leaves the NNPP, he would continue to respect his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, just as he never insulted former Kano Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje despite their political battles.
On whether he is set to dump the NNPP, Jibrin replied:
“Nothing is impossible. I can remain in NNPP, I can go back to APC, I can join ADC or PDP or even PRP. I can go to wherever I like. Any time I decide, I will make my position known.”
Although still in the opposition party, Jibrin is widely seen as close to President Bola Tinubu, having served as his campaign director in 2023 before defecting from the APC.
Only days ago, Jibrin told Channels Television that Kwankwaso himself is open to rejoining the ruling party, a move he says could shape alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
