BENUE — Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 27 kidnapped passengers in Amoda community, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, following a daring operation that dismantled the hideout of armed men responsible for the abduction.
The operation, carried out by troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, saw soldiers overpower the kidnappers and safely recover all victims without casualties.
According to military authorities, the breakthrough in Benue formed part of ongoing nationwide counter-terrorism and anti-crime offensives, which in the past week led to the killing of 15 terrorists, the arrest of 42 criminal suspects, and the rescue of 30 other kidnap victims across different states.
In the North East, troops engaged Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Banki, and Gujba, neutralizing 15 insurgents. Weapons including rifles, grenades, explosives, motorcycles, and communication gadgets were recovered in the encounters.
Elsewhere, security operatives arrested 15 suspects in Kaduna for drug trafficking, 25 others in Bayelsa for oil theft, and two in Delta State. In the South-South, illegal crude oil bunkering sites were also destroyed in Imo, Rivers, and Delta states.
The Army described the coordinated nationwide crackdown as part of its sustained efforts to restore peace and strengthen security across Nigeria.
