OWERRI — Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has cautioned that his successor might lack the religious values and God-fearing disposition he brings to governance.
Speaking on Wednesday while receiving leaders from the Owerri Zone at the Government House, Owerri, Uzodimma emphasized the need for a transparent and democratic process in selecting the next governor of the state.
The governor, who initiated the Imo Charter of Equity to ensure fairness and inclusivity in the rotation of power among the state’s three zones, clarified that the charter is not an automatic ticket for any zone but a guiding principle.
“The Charter of Equity is not a slogan for confusion. It is a document to remind us of the imbalance in the system and see how best to correct it,” Uzodimma explained.
He stressed that the charter must align with democratic processes, urging political leaders and stakeholders to work with him in strengthening equity and fairness.
“If we don’t, the man coming after me may not be as religious and God-fearing as I am,” the governor warned.
