“Presidency Is Not Moi Moi” — APC’s Joe Igbokwe Slams Peter Obi

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has taken a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his vow to serve only a single four-year term if elected president in 2027.

Describing Obi’s promise as a display of political desperation, Igbokwe argued that those making such pledges clearly lack an understanding of Nigeria’s complexity and what true leadership requires.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the APC stalwart wrote:
“Desperation everywhere. Those who do not know Nigeria very well and those who do not know what leadership is all about are desperately asking for a single term in office as President.”

He added pointedly:
“Let us put our thinking caps. To be President of Nigeria is not moi moi.”

Obi, a former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s flag bearer in the 2023 elections, recently reaffirmed his commitment to serve only one term if elected, saying he aims to use four years to reset the country’s trajectory, tackle corruption, and restore integrity to governance.

However, his one-term declaration has sparked heated debate, drawing both praise from supporters and fierce criticism from political opponents like Igbokwe.

Despite the backlash, Obi insists his pledge is rooted in sincerity and a desire to deliver meaningful impact — not a gimmick for political gain.
