Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remain united and committed to rebuilding the party despite its internal challenges.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Saraki made the appeal following his participation in a PDP Consultative Conference convened by one of the party’s founding fathers, Professor Jerry Gana.
“It was an honour to join the founding fathers and stakeholders of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, today at the Consultative Conference,” Saraki wrote.
He commended the gathering as a “family meeting,” praising Professor Gana for taking the initiative to bring together key voices within the party at a critical time.
Reflecting on the PDP’s legacy, Saraki noted that the party had overseen significant progress during its 16 years in power, including Nigeria’s emergence as Africa’s largest economy and a period of national unity.
“Let’s not abandon a ship in need of repairs. If you must leave, let it be on ideology, not anger,” he said. “The ultimate goal must be to put Nigeria first and rise above the propaganda designed to divide us as a party.”
Reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, Saraki declared: “The PDP was built on solid foundations. Its founders handed it over to us with trust. God forbid that we become the generation that lets it fall apart.”
He urged party members to remain focused on the greater good of the nation, stressing that unity and collective commitment are essential to repositioning the PDP ahead of future elections.
“I urge all true patriots of the PDP to agree that for the greater good of Nigeria, leaving is not an option,” he concluded.
