Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has recorded a political gain in Kano State following the defection of several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The defectors, who are predominantly youths, were officially received into the party on Sunday by the Kano State Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Alhaji Yusuf Rabiu Fasaha, alongside the party’s House of Assembly candidate for Kumbotso Local Government, Captain Nafe.

The development is being seen as a significant boost to the NDC’s grassroots presence in Kumbotso, with the new members pledging their commitment to the party and its vision ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking at the reception, Alhaji Fasaha described the defections as evidence of the party’s growing appeal among young people in the state. He assured the new members of equal opportunities and full participation within the party’s structure.

Also addressing the gathering, Captain Nafe welcomed the defectors and urged them to intensify grassroots mobilization in preparation for the 2027 elections. He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to youth empowerment, inclusive leadership, and people-centered representation.
