2027: Bayelsa PDP, Accord Party Leaders, 15 DLA Governorship Candidates Back Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign has received fresh endorsements from the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Board of Trustees of the Accord Party and governorship candidates of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) in 15 states.

The endorsements come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political figures from different parties declaring support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

The Bayelsa PDP chapter said it would endorse Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate in the state, following the decision of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to serve on the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ikaebimo Mark, the party described Wike’s acceptance of the appointment as a significant political development that reinforced the need for strategic alignment ahead of the elections.

The statement, quoting Bayelsa PDP Chairman Alabh George Turnah, said the proposed endorsement was intended to align the state leadership’s political direction with Wike’s position and mobilise party stakeholders and supporters towards a common objective.

It added that Turnah, who leads the National Rainbow Coalition in Bayelsa State, would coordinate the coalition’s activities in support of Tinubu’s candidacy.

The party urged its members, stakeholders and supporters to remain united as political consultations and preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

Accord Party Board of Trustees backs Adeleke’s endorsement

The Board of Trustees of the Accord Party has also expressed support for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s decision to back Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The board commended Tinubu for appointing Adeleke as campaign coordinator for Osun State, expressing confidence that the governor would mobilise support for the President beyond the state.

In a statement, the Board of Trustees Chairman, Reverend Isaac Adeniyi, said Accord Party members across the country would support Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Adeniyi also dismissed a statement attributed to two party figures in Lagos State, Oke Sewedo and Oladeji Oluwatosin, who had asked Adeleke to clarify his political allegiance following his appointment to the presidential campaign structure.

The Accord Party board chairman described the statement as the work of impostors seeking to misrepresent the party’s position.

He urged the public to disregard the statement, insisting that there was no recognised platform known as the Concerned Leaders of Accord in Lagos State.

Adeniyi maintained that the party’s recognised national officers authorised to issue official statements were its National Chairman, Barrister Maxwell, and himself as chairman of the Board of Trustees.

15 DLA governorship candidates endorse Tinubu

Meanwhile, governorship candidates of the Democratic Leadership Alliance in 15 states have declared support for Tinubu’s re-election, pledging to mobilise their political structures for the President ahead of the 2027 election.

The National Chairman of the DLA Forum of Governorship Candidates, Aboki S. Bayonga, announced the decision during a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

Bayonga, who is the party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State, said the endorsement followed consultations across the states and a general meeting of the forum held on Thursday.

He clarified that the candidates had not abandoned their governorship ambitions and would continue contesting under the DLA platform, while supporting Tinubu in the presidential election.

“As the Forum of Governorship Candidates of DLA, we are here today declaring our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our presidential candidate in 2027. Not that we have dropped our aspirations under our own platform. But as for the presidential election, we are for Asiwaju 100 per cent,” Bayonga said.

He attributed the decision to what he described as achievements of the Tinubu administration in student financing, agriculture and infrastructure development.

Bayonga cited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), government interventions in agriculture and the distribution of fertilisers as initiatives he believed had benefited Nigerians.

He also praised the administration’s road construction projects, expressing confidence that another four years would enable Tinubu to achieve more of his objectives.

Explaining why the candidates chose to support Tinubu rather than another opposition presidential contender, Bayonga argued that the administration should be given more time to implement its policies.

He also stressed that the endorsement was for Tinubu as an individual presidential candidate and did not amount to an adoption of the APC as their party.

“We are not campaigning for our party for the presidency. We are working for our party in all other positions: in governorship, in senators, in reps, in the House of Assembly, in other elections. But only our support for Tinubu as a presidential candidate, not for APC, but for Tinubu as a candidate,” he said.

Bayonga maintained that the candidates had reached the decision collectively, adding that their grassroots networks would be instrumental in mobilising votes across the 15 states.

He was accompanied at the briefing by the forum’s secretary, Adamu Idrisu Chado of Kaduna State, alongside representatives from Osun, Adamawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Gombe, Enugu and Bauchi states.

The latest endorsements add to the political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties and political leaders continue to negotiate alliances and declare their preferred presidential candidates.
