Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has declared his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying he has now “seen the light” after previously backing the opposition in 2023.
Okowa made the declaration on Saturday while addressing supporters at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The former governor, who served as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 general election, acknowledged his previous political affiliation but insisted that circumstances had changed.
“I was in another ticket in 2023, but I have now seen the light. I have seen what Tinubu is doing. I have seen where Nigeria is going. I cannot stay in darkness when there is light,” he said.
Okowa expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, arguing that the President had demonstrated genuine commitment to Nigeria’s development.
He acknowledged that the administration had taken difficult decisions but maintained that the policies were beginning to produce positive results.
The former governor also explained that his decision to join the APC was not motivated by personal interests but by his desire to see Delta State and Nigeria make progress.
“I am not here to deceive anybody. I have been in opposition before. I know what it is to be in opposition. But when you see the truth, you must follow the truth,” Okowa added.
His declaration marks a significant political shift from his position during the 2023 presidential election, when he campaigned alongside Atiku Abubakar against Tinubu.
