The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has emerged as the sole candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio was elected during the party’s senatorial primary held on Monday, securing the APC ticket unopposed for the forthcoming polls.
The Senate President is currently serving as the 15th President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Akpabio first won election into the Senate in 2015 to represent Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District under the APC platform. He, however, lost his re-election bid in 2019 before making a political comeback with victory in the 2023 senatorial election.
His emergence as the party’s sole candidate is seen as a major consolidation of his political influence within the APC structure in Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 elections.
