Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, has expressed grief over the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, recalling his efforts to support the actor’s medical treatment before his death.
Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, said he and his wife, Temitope, stood by the actor and his family throughout his illness and made efforts to ensure he received appropriate medical care.
In a tribute signed by the couple and shared on Facebook on Monday, Adeola described Hassan’s death as painful, particularly following what he called the actor’s courageous battle with illness and the widespread prayers and hopes for his recovery.
According to Adeola, the family remained optimistic that Hassan would overcome the health challenge and return to his loved ones and admirers.
“During those difficult moments, we stood closely with him and his family, supporting his treatment and doing everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care.
“We remained hopeful and prayerful that he would overcome the illness and return to the family, friends and countless admirers who cherished him. Sadly, despite all efforts, it has pleased Almighty God to call him home. Indeed, God knows best,” the statement read.
Adeola described the late actor as more than an accomplished entertainer, calling him a “dear brother” and a distinguished son of Ilaro and Ogun West.
He said Hassan’s decades-long career brought joy to generations of Nigerians and contributed significantly to the growth of the country’s film industry.
“His talent, humility and enduring body of work will ensure that his memory lives on,” Adeola said.
The senator extended his condolences to Hassan’s wife, children and other family members, as well as the people of Ilaro and Yewaland and the late actor’s colleagues and associates in the entertainment industry.
Hassan’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had previously acknowledged Adeola’s support for their father during his illness.
