The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, following his comments on the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Dare had accused Atiku of political opportunism over his pledge to restore the fuel subsidy regime if elected president in 2027.
Atiku, who is seeking the presidency under the ADC, recently promised to reinstate fuel subsidies, arguing that the policy would help ease the economic burden on Nigerians.
Reacting to Dare’s criticism, the ADC said the government should focus on addressing the challenges facing Nigerians rather than attacking opposition figures.
In a statement posted on X by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said political discourse should be centred on finding solutions to the country’s problems.
The ADC maintained that its position was not about trading insults with members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but about promoting policies that would improve the welfare of Nigerians.
Dare had argued that Atiku’s proposal represented a reversal of the position he took during the 2023 presidential election, describing the new promise as politically motivated.
The exchange comes as political parties and presidential hopefuls intensify preparations and policy debates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
