Trump Accuses Ilhan Omar of Using ‘Fake Name’, Demands Her Resignation

US President Donald Trump has renewed his attacks on Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, alleging that she used a different name to secure election to the House of Representatives and calling for her immediate resignation.

Trump made the allegation in a post on his Truth Social account on Friday, claiming that Omar’s name was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi rather than Ilhan Omar.

He also linked the name to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, whom Omar has previously been accused of marrying amid unsubstantiated allegations that he was her brother.

Trump questioned Omar’s reported response to the allegation, in which she reportedly said, “Not to my knowledge,” when asked whether she had married her brother.

The US president described the alleged use of a different name as fraud and demanded that Omar step down from Congress.

“Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress,” Trump wrote.

He also called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to take action over what he described as the Democratic Party’s concession of Omar’s congressional seat.

However, Trump did not provide evidence in the post to substantiate his allegation that Omar used a false name to secure her election or committed electoral fraud.

Omar, a Democrat representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, has repeatedly been targeted by Trump over her political positions and background.

The latest remarks add to the ongoing political tensions between the US president and the congresswoman, who has frequently criticised his administration and policies.
