President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy has recovered from its recent challenges, expressing confidence that ongoing reforms are yielding measurable results while improved coordination among security and intelligence agencies is strengthening the country’s fight against insecurity.
The President’s position was disclosed on Tuesday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after he led members of the National Communications Team to a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The delegation comprised the Presidential Media Team and heads of key government information agencies, including the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Voice of Nigeria (VON), and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
Speaking after the meeting, Idris said the engagement provided an opportunity to review public perception of government policies and receive fresh guidance from the President on the administration’s communication strategy.
“We thought it is important to continuously engage with Mr. President, hear directly from him, and brief him on our communication efforts,” Idris said.
According to the minister, the communications team also shared feedback from Nigerians on government policies to strengthen public engagement and ensure citizens’ concerns are reflected in government messaging.
Idris said President Tinubu maintained that the administration’s economic reforms are beginning to produce tangible results.
“The President has told us several times that the economy is turning the corner. We now know that the economy has indeed turned the corner,” he stated.
On security, Idris said the President acknowledged that while challenges remain in some parts of the country, security operations have improved significantly due to stronger collaboration among security and intelligence agencies.
“Government is strategising and working closely with the security agencies. You can see the better coordination this time around,” he said.
He attributed the improved synergy to Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to restoring peace and stability across the country.
The minister added that the President emphasized the need for sustained engagement with Nigerians to ensure government policies are properly understood while public feedback continues to shape decision-making.
On media relations, Idris said Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to press freedom but stressed that responsible journalism remains essential.
“The media will continue to have the freedom to do their work. But freedom also has to come with responsibility,” the minister quoted the President as saying.
Tinubu also called for stronger collaboration between the government and the media to combat fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, particularly in an era of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence technologies.
