Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has explained why he attended the launch of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential campaign office in Abuja.
Obi made this known in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday, saying his presence at the event was driven by his commitment to promoting a new Nigeria built on unity, love, justice, mutual respect and inclusion.
He said such values were particularly important at a time when political contests could easily become contentious and divisive.
According to the former Anambra State governor, Nigerian politicians must ensure that their shared love for the country remains greater than their political differences.
Obi also called on fellow presidential candidates to focus their campaigns on ideas and practical solutions capable of addressing the country’s major challenges, including insecurity, poverty, hunger, inequality and the growing number of out-of-school children.
“Let us compete on ideas that will unite our people, improve their lives, and restore hope to our nation, while maintaining respect, decency, and love for one another,” Obi said.
He also congratulated Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, as well as other leaders and members of the APM on the launch of the campaign office.
Obi’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their candidates stepping up their campaigns across the country.
