The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over reported cases of killings in Osogbo, the state capital, and other parts of the state, calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party said the reported incidents had become a source of concern to residents and other stakeholders.
The APC said it had expected the conclusion of the August 15 governorship election to bring an end to the reported violence in the state, but expressed disappointment that security concerns had persisted.
The party said the frequency of violent incidents could create fear among residents, visitors and potential investors, urging the state government to take decisive steps to address the situation.
The APC also referred to a Friday attack around the Owo-Eba area near Ilesa Garage in Osogbo, where two people were reportedly killed and several others injured.
The Osun State Police Command separately confirmed that two people were killed and four others sustained gunshot injuries in what it described as a suspected cult clash in Osogbo. One of the deceased was identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as Small Rugged, while the identity of the second victim had not been officially established at the time of the police statement.
According to the APC, the victims were attacked by unidentified assailants reportedly armed with guns, machetes, knives and other weapons.
The party identified the second victim as Seyi Osha and said other persons, including Mascot, Spirit and Agba Kali, were seriously injured. However, some of these details have not been independently confirmed, while police have officially confirmed four injured persons.
The APC urged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to strengthen security measures across the state and called on the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for the attacks.
The party also appealed for an end to what it described as the use of violence to settle disputes, stressing that suspects should be subjected to due judicial process rather than being killed.
The police have meanwhile deployed tactical teams to apprehend those responsible for the Osogbo shooting, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
