‘Obi Was Clueless Then, Still Clueless Now’ — Onanuga Fires Back Over Ex-Governor’s Interview

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has described Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as “clueless,” following remarks the former Anambra State governor made about his relationship with former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Obi, during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, recounted how both former presidents responded promptly to distress calls he made while serving as governor of Anambra State.

According to Obi, one incident occurred when a severe erosion disaster struck Umuchiana in Ekulobia in the early hours of the morning.

“Forget security. I had erosion in a place called Umuchiana in Ekulobia and by 2 a.m. my phone rang. They said there was erosion and a house had collapsed into it.

“I left my place in Awka, drove to the site at 2 a.m. and called Obasanjo from there. I told him I was in a village where erosion had just occurred and a building had collapsed, and he answered me at 2 a.m.

“When I had one of the most critical robbery incidents, I called President Yar’Adua, and he kept calling me daily until the situation was resolved.”

Reacting to the interview, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Obi’s remarks in a post on X.

“Obi was clueless then and is clueless now,” Onanuga wrote.
