100 Suspected Bandits Killed as Troops Recover APC Loaded with Motorcycles in Zamfara

Security forces have reportedly recovered an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) loaded with motorcycles after a counter-ambush operation against suspected bandits in Zamfara State, with more than 100 terrorists said to have been neutralised during the operation.

The development was disclosed by conflict and security journalist Bakatsine in a post shared on X on Thursday.

According to the report, the recovered APC was brought into Gummi town following the military operation, which targeted armed groups operating in the area. The vehicle was allegedly being used by the bandits to transport motorcycles.

A video accompanying the post showed the APC arriving in Gummi with several motorcycles loaded inside, underscoring the scale of the recovery.

The operation comes barely a day after security forces reportedly rescued an abducted official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and foiled multiple bandit attacks in coordinated operations across Zamfara State.

Bakatsine reported that heavily armed bandits, riding about 50 motorcycles, had invaded communities in Talata Mafara, rustled hundreds of cattle and abducted an INEC official, Aliyu Mohammed, shortly after he completed the transportation of National Examinations Council (NECO) examination materials to Sokoto State.

His Toyota Hilux vehicle and the examination materials were later recovered intact.

Police operatives attached to the Victim and Crime Response Unit (VCRU), working alongside military personnel, reportedly tracked the bandits to Gando Forest, where they engaged the attackers in a gun battle. The security team successfully rescued the abducted INEC official and another victim unharmed, while also recovering hundreds of stolen cattle.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement confirming the reported death toll of the suspected bandits or the recovery of the APC.
