NDC’s 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has issued a bold challenge to critics accusing him of soliciting campaign funds from Nigerians abroad, vowing to end his presidential bid entirely if anyone can produce proof of such a transaction.
Speaking during his ongoing visit to the United States, Obi pushed back firmly against speculation that the trip was aimed at raising money from the Nigerian diaspora for his 2027 campaign.
“People are saying that on my current trip to America, I have gone there to collect money from Nigerians in the diaspora,” Obi said. “If anyone can show me one person in America who gave me even one dollar, I will end my 2027 campaign.”
The former Anambra State governor insisted that his travels are entirely self-funded, stressing that he bears all costs personally as he continues his global engagements.
“I am using my own resources and paying all my bills, I am running around the world, trying to do the right thing,” he added.
Obi’s remarks come amid mounting scrutiny of his frequent international trips, with critics questioning their timing and purpose ahead of the 2027 general election. His supporters, however, maintain that the visits are part of broader engagement efforts and have dismissed the funding allegations as baseless.
As speculation continues to trail his political camp, Obi’s latest statement puts the burden of proof squarely on his accusers — a challenge that, for now, remains unanswered.
