NNPP Accuses Kwankwaso of Continued Interference, Warns NDC Against Political Alliance

LAGOS, Nigeria — The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of continuing to interfere in the party’s affairs despite publicly aligning himself with other political platforms.

The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, who claimed that Kwankwaso still exerts influence within the NNPP through loyalists allegedly left behind after his departure.

According to the party, members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement continue to pursue legal battles and political activities initiated by the former Kano State governor.

“Kwankwaso is not only trying to hijack political power in NDC Kano, he has continued to drag the NNPP for reasons best known to him,” the statement read.

The party further alleged that Kwankwaso’s political structure in Kano State has weakened significantly, claiming that many of his key supporters and political associates have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“NDC should be smart and intelligent enough to understand that Kwankwaso’s structure was in the past organic in Kano State, but at the moment all his commanding officers have joined the APC,” the party stated.

The NNPP also accused Kwankwaso and prominent political figure Buba Galadima of betraying the confidence of the party’s founding members and attempting to regain control of the party through various political maneuvers.

“Kwankwaso and Galadima betrayed the trust of the founding members of the NNPP and have not stopped manipulations to still hijack the party,” the statement added.

Warning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against granting Kwankwaso significant influence, the NNPP said such a move could have severe political consequences.

The party maintained that both Kwankwaso and Galadima, whom it described as expelled members, would not be welcomed back into the fold.

It also called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure strict compliance with existing court orders in order to protect the integrity of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The latest remarks underscore the lingering tensions between the NNPP leadership and Kwankwaso, amid growing political realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.
