Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has been summoned by the Nigeria Police Force for questioning regarding an ongoing investigation into alleged resistance and obstruction of public officers.
The police disclosed that Sowore’s name was prominently mentioned in connection with the investigation, which reportedly involves actions intended to cause grievous harm or prevent an arrest during a recent incident.
The summon was communicated in a letter addressed to Sowore by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), at the Force Headquarters in Area 11, Garki, Abuja. Sowore shared a copy of the letter on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Sources revealed that the investigation is tied to a video Sowore recorded during an altercation with police officers on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Access Road in Lagos.
The letter requested Sowore to appear for an interview with the DIG, FID, on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Abuja.
Responding to the invitation, Sowore confirmed his intention to comply. In a post on X, he wrote, “The @PoliceNG invitation has arrived, I will be there on Monday as requested. #RevolutionNow.”
Details of the incident and its implications are expected to emerge following his meeting with the police.
