Nigeria wins U-21 Women’s Volleyball Championship

In Niamey, Niger Republic, on Sunday night July 9, 2023, Nigeria won the Zone 3 of the 2023 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship.

On Sunday night, Nigeria defeated Ghana 3:0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10) to win the championship.

The ladies had earlier defeated Ghana, a local foe, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8) in their opening game of the competition.

In their second game, they defeated the hosts Niger by a score of 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4) to extend their winning streak.

In their third match, the squad also dominated Benin Republic, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) to earn a rematch against Ghana in the championship.

Coach Rakiya Mohammed thanked God for the win in a post-game speech.

“We bless God because this is the first time Nigeria is clinching a trophy at the underage level. I feel so happy.

“The Ghanaians came all out but the girls proved their worth and we have now qualified for the world championship in Thailand.”
