Owerri – The Imo State Police Command has arrested 27-year-old Oluchi Nzemechi from Uzoagba in the Ikeduru Council Area for allegedly stabbing her partner, Kelechi Nzemechi, to death over a dispute involving internet fraud proceeds amounting to 250 million Rupiah.

Addressing the press in Owerri, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, detailed the arrest while parading the suspect.

According to the police, a thorough investigation led to the arrest of Oluchi Nzemechi, who confessed to the crime. She admitted that her partner, Kelechi, had introduced her to internet fraud, commonly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo.’ On June 2, 2024, a heated argument erupted between them when Kelechi refused to give her a share of the 250 million Rupiah they had allegedly defrauded from a victim in Indonesia. During the altercation, Oluchi used a kitchen knife to stab Kelechi in the upper part of his body, leading to his death.

To cover up her crime, Oluchi wrote a threatening note claiming, “You think you can eat my money and go free, I am baba for the boys, I am coming for your wife and your child including your family,” and placed it on Kelechi’s lifeless body before fleeing the scene. She also revealed that she had been living with the victim since 2019 and had a child with him.

The police are intensifying efforts to recover the alleged 250 million Rupiah for possible return to the rightful owner. The suspect is currently undergoing further investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be arraigned in court soon.
