The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the transformation and modernization of Nigeria’s media and broadcasting landscape, with fresh initiatives aimed at enhancing capacity and fostering responsible journalism.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known on Thursday at the Sixth Edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series held at the National Press Centre in Abuja.
Addressing journalists, the Minister revealed that he had just returned from the 2025 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference in Las Vegas, United States, themed “The Technology, The Trend, The Future.” The global event brought together media stakeholders to explore emerging innovations reshaping the broadcasting industry.
“I attended the conference alongside key agency heads under the Ministry to engage in high-level discussions and forge strategic partnerships that will enhance the technical and technological capacity of Nigeria’s broadcast sector,” Idris stated.
He emphasized that the Tinubu-led administration remains deeply committed to long-term reforms within the media space, adding that platforms like the Ministerial Press Briefing Series and upcoming nationwide Town Hall Meetings are a testament to this commitment.
“These initiatives are not just events—they are part of a broader strategy to institutionalize open governance, foster dialogue, and strengthen the social contract between the government and the people,” the Minister noted.
In a significant development, Idris disclosed plans to establish a Media and Information Literacy Institute in Abuja, following discussions with senior UNESCO executives at the Nigerian Business Forum held recently in Paris, France.
“The Institute, the first of its kind, will serve as a hub for professional development, helping to build a resilient, ethical, and forward-looking media ecosystem in Nigeria,” he said.
Also present at the briefing was the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who highlighted key interventions in the energy sector aimed at accelerating industrialization and improving electricity access nationwide.
The Ministerial Press Briefing Series continues to serve as a platform for government officials to provide updates on their ministries’ activities while reinforcing the administration’s drive for transparency and inclusive governance.
