The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that it will resist personal political ambitions and strengthen internal democracy as part of efforts to build a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
National leader of the party, Seriake Dickson, made the declaration on Tuesday in Abuja amid growing political speculations surrounding the possible involvement of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the party’s future plans.
Dickson stressed that the NDC would not be transformed into what he described as a “special-purpose vehicle” designed to serve the presidential ambition of any individual politician.
According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the party is being built as a lasting political institution anchored on ideology, reforms, national unity and service to the people, rather than personal interests.
“We are not building a special-purpose vehicle for any individual. We are building together a political party that will stand the test of time. We will resist any personal ambition,” Dickson said.
He added that the party’s focus remains on strengthening democratic structures internally while positioning itself as a platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s political and governance challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
