Four suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been killed, while 12 logistics boats belonging to the group were destroyed in precision airstrikes in Borno State.
The operation was conducted around Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of the state at about 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama said the strikes followed an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission that detected a large concentration of suspected terrorist logistics boats along the riverbank.
According to Makama, 44 boats suspected to belong to ISWAP were initially sighted around Kangarwa before Nigerian Air Force aircraft launched a strike on the area.
He said an aircraft conducting armed reconnaissance remained overhead after the initial strike and observed suspected terrorists attempting to salvage and load some of the damaged boats.
The aircraft subsequently carried out another precision strike on a larger cluster of boats where the terrorists had gathered.
“Battle damage assessment showed four terrorists neutralised and 12 terrorist logistics boats destroyed,” Makama stated.
The aircraft reportedly remained in the area after the operation to monitor further movements and provide continued aerial surveillance.
The latest operation underscores the continued use of air power by Nigerian security forces to disrupt terrorist logistics and movement networks in the North-East.
