Kwankwasiyya Vows Legal Fight After Deputy Governorship Candidate Vanishes from INEC’s List

The Kwankwasiyya Movement says it will press the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for answers and a formal correction after Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy governorship candidate in Kano State, was left off the commission’s final candidates list.

Kwankwaso and his running mate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, were both excluded. The NDC has called it an administrative error and says it is seeking a correction from INEC.

Movement spokesperson Habibu Mohammed, speaking on Arise Television, said the omission “came as a shock,” noting that Kwankwaso — a former deputy governor — had registered with the NDC well within the stipulated deadline and that there was no legal basis, such as a pending court order, to justify leaving him off the list.

Mohammed pointed to a 14-day window under the Electoral Act for candidates to seek redress when omitted from a final list, and said the movement intends to use it. He expressed confidence the matter would be resolved through engagement with INEC, stressing that the movement would pursue “the right way” rather than confrontation.
