Two suspected family members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have voluntarily surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
According to Makama, the surrender occurred when a 29-year-old woman, identified as Fatimata Modu, arrived at the location of troops from the 81 Division Task Force Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade, accompanied by her two-year-old son, Muhammed Modu.
The woman and her child, both natives of Yaganari Village in Bama LGA, reportedly surrendered voluntarily and were immediately taken into custody for profiling and documentation in line with established military procedures.
Preliminary screening has since been completed, while further assessments are expected to be conducted by the relevant security agencies.
Makama noted that the latest surrender adds to the increasing number of insurgents and their family members who have abandoned the insurgency and embraced peaceful reintegration amid sustained military operations across Nigeria’s North-East.
He added that although the overall security situation across the theatre remains relatively calm, troops continue to maintain a high level of vigilance and operational readiness due to the unpredictable nature of the conflict.
