“El-Rufai’s Wife Cries Out Over ‘Impossible’ Bail Conditions, Says Traditional Council Refused Attestation”

Asiya El-Rufai, the wife of detained former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the bail conditions granted to her husband by the Federal High Court are practically impossible to meet, preventing his release from custody.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Asiya said although the court granted her husband bail, the conditions attached to it have made compliance difficult.

According to her, the court ordered two sureties with assets valued at N200 million each, alongside properties worth N200 million located in GRA, Kaduna. The court also required an attestation from the Kaduna State Traditional Council.

She claimed that efforts to secure the required attestation have been unsuccessful.

“Mallam has been accused of offences in different courts, and those charges are clearly bailable offences under Nigerian law. He applied for bail several times at the High Court but was denied.

“At the Federal High Court, he was granted bail with terms that are not viable. The judge ordered two sureties with N200 million each, properties worth N200 million in GRA, Kaduna, and an attestation from the Kaduna State Traditional Council.

“Efforts to get the attestation became impossible. The traditional council would not give it. I don’t want to speculate on the reason. They simply said they were not able to do it,” she stated.

Asiya maintained that the conditions have effectively stalled her husband’s release despite the court’s decision to grant him bail.
