‘I Was a Victim Too’ — Deputy Speaker Kalu Reveals How Alleged Fake Presidency Agency Fooled Him

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has revealed that he was among those allegedly deceived by the self-styled Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), saying the group’s presentation initially appeared credible.

Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Kalu disclosed that his office received an official-looking letter in May 2025 bearing the Presidency’s letterhead and identifying the sender as the Office of the Director-General of the PFIPC.

According to him, the letter listed an address at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase Three, Second Floor, Central Business District, a detail that made the organisation appear legitimate despite raising some doubts.

“I was a victim, and I’m sure if you watched the news, you would have seen my picture displayed alongside the purported Director-General of this organisation,” Kalu said.

He explained that after reviewing the letter, he directed members of his team to verify the existence of the organisation at the stated address.

“My team returned and confirmed that the organisation was operating from the location. Based on that report, I approved a meeting with them,” he added.

Kalu’s revelation comes amid growing scrutiny over the activities of the alleged fake agency and concerns about how official symbols and government identities may have been used to create an appearance of legitimacy.
