Former Adamawa State Governor, Senator Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), bringing an end to his membership of the opposition party.
Bindow, who governed Adamawa State between 2015 and 2019, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 15, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the ADC in Lokuwa Ward, Mubi North Local Government Area.
In the letter, the former governor said his decision was reached after “careful reflection and extensive consideration” of his personal convictions, political aspirations, and commitment to public service.
“I write to formally tender my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), effective from July 15, 2026,” he stated.
Bindow expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve and contribute to its growth, while wishing its leadership and members success in their future political engagements.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have associated with the party and to have contributed, in my own way, to its growth and democratic ideals. I hold the leadership and members of the party in high regard and wish them success in their future endeavors,” he wrote.
Explaining the reason for his exit, the former governor said changing political realities had compelled him to chart a new course aligned with his vision and responsibilities to the people.
“As political realities continue to evolve, I believe it is necessary for me to take a new path consistent with my vision and responsibilities to the people I have always sought to serve,” he said.
Ending the letter on a symbolic note, Bindow declared: “It is time to move, so I have moved.”
The former governor did not disclose his next political destination, leaving speculation over his future political plans.
