Governor Charles Soludo has announced the commencement of a statewide crackdown on individuals posing as pastors and prophets in Anambra State, accusing them of exploiting vulnerable residents through fake miracles and deceptive teachings.
The governor disclosed that several suspects had already been arrested and were currently in custody, adding that many of them were “confessing” to their activities.
Soludo made the remarks on Sunday during the All Knights Day celebration held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Awka.
According to him, the state government is determined to rid Anambra of what he described as fraudulent religious practices and the preaching of “salvation without the cross.”
“As I speak now, several of them are already in custody and confessing,” the governor said.
He maintained that a “new Anambra” was emerging and must be free from manipulation and exploitation disguised as religion.
Soludo also challenged pastors and prophets who claim to possess genuine healing powers to demonstrate them publicly at Amaku Teaching Hospital.
“We’ve arrested fake pastors and bishops. Whoever wants to perform miracle should come to Amaku Hospital,” he stated.
The governor further urged church leaders across the state to intensify teachings on hard work, discipline, and responsibility, stressing that prosperity should not be presented as something achievable without effort or sacrifice.
He warned that his administration would continue taking decisive action against individuals using religion as a tool for deception and financial exploitation.
