National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response of the City Boy Movement, Bashir Ahmad, has denied claims that he secured only 16 votes during the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election in 2022.
The controversy resurfaced on Thursday after Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, mocked the APC chieftain in a viral post, claiming that Bashir polled just 16 votes during the primary.
Reacting to the claim in a post on his official X account on Friday, Bashir dismissed the figure as false, insisting that no credible primary election was conducted.
He alleged that the exercise was manipulated, adding that there was verifiable evidence, including videos and other materials, to support his claim.
Bashir said he was confident of winning the primary if the process had been conducted transparently and urged Davido and his supporters to stop circulating what he described as misleading information.
“I feel it is important to say this unequivocally that it is simply not true that I got 16 votes,” he said.
“The reality is that there was no credible primary election in the first place.
“If there had been, I am very confident I would have been the winner. There is verifiable evidence of how the process was rigged, including videos and other materials that support my claim.
“Therefore, any figures being circulated by Davido, his supporters or anyone else from that purported exercise are misleading and do not reflect a transparent, legitimate or credible primary election.
“The full story will be told at the appropriate time.”
