The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has urged governments at all levels to place the protection of lives and property above political interests, stressing that Nigerians deserve the dividends of democracy rather than violence and insecurity.
The party made the call while reacting to the acquisition of two DA 42 MNG surveillance aircraft by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to strengthen security operations across the state.
According to reports, the aircraft are equipped with advanced surveillance technology capable of identifying targets from both high and low altitudes, making them valuable assets in intelligence gathering and security operations.
In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, who also serves as the National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the APM said governance must remain focused on the welfare and security of citizens.
Dantalle expressed optimism that the aircraft, if effectively deployed, would enhance the operations of security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, in tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping for ransom and other violent crimes in Oyo State.
The party also emphasized that public safety should take precedence over political considerations, noting that the primary responsibility of any democratic government is to safeguard the lives and well-being of its citizens.
“The well-being of the populace is the essence of democratic governance. Nigerians seek and deserve the dividends of democracy, not violence,” the statement read.
The APM added that collective efforts toward strengthening security would help build a stable, progressive, equitable and democratic society that future generations would be proud to inherit.
