The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that it will not rely solely on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to safeguard its votes in the 2027 general election, insisting that it has put measures in place to protect every ballot cast for its candidates.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing journalists during a sensitisation walk in Ilorin, Kwara State. The event was organised to mobilise residents ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abdullahi said the ADC had learned from its experience in the 2023 general election and would not repeat what he described as the mistake of placing complete trust in the electoral umpire.
“We know what INEC is capable of. We trusted the commission during the 2023 general election, but the outcome left us disappointed. We will not make the same mistake again by relying solely on trust,” he said.
While acknowledging that there are dedicated officials within INEC, Abdullahi maintained that credible elections should not depend on trust alone.
He said the ADC was determined to defend every vote cast for its candidates across the country, adding that the party was confident President Bola Tinubu would be defeated in the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, the party has developed strategies to protect its votes but would not disclose the details publicly.
“We are not going to tell you, but that is what we are going to do if we must win this election,” Abdullahi stated.
