The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC), dismissing allegations that it was responsible for a reported shooting involving ADC members in Edo State and describing the opposition party as “its own nemesis.”
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the ADC was “crippling itself” through what it described as reckless accusations and internal disarray.
The reaction followed a press statement by the ADC on Wednesday, in which the party alleged that the APC was behind the shooting incident in Edo State.
Describing the allegation as “utterly delusional,” the APC faulted the ADC for making claims before the conclusion of any official investigation. The ruling party said such action undermines due process and portrays the ADC as acting as “accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge” in its own case.
The APC further accused the ADC of attempting to weaponize rhetoric to attract public sympathy, labeling the party’s claims of “acts of terrorism” by the APC as reckless and unjustifiable. It argued that such characterizations trivialize the country’s ongoing security challenges and the sacrifices of security forces combating terrorism nationwide.
While condemning violence in the political space, the APC called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the Edo incident and bring those responsible to justice.
However, the party also urged investigators to scrutinize the ADC’s internal leadership dynamics, alleging that the opposition party is plagued by factional struggles and internal conflicts.
The APC maintained that it had no involvement in the shooting and insisted it remains focused on governance and recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and constituency elections in Rivers and Kano states.
Reaffirming support for President Bola Tinubu, the APC expressed appreciation to voters for what it described as a vote of confidence in the administration’s leadership and reform agenda.
The party concluded by pledging continued commitment to building a “stronger, more resilient and prosperous” Nigeria.
