A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Aliyu Farouk, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not be pleased with recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, directed at some governors elected on the platform of the ruling party.
Farouk made the statement while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday.
Wike had described some APC governors as “politically lazy” while defending his Rainbow Coalition, which he said was focused on mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
His comments followed the rejection by the APC Governors’ Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, of any political alliance that could weaken the ruling party or undermine Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Reacting to the development, Farouk said the APC was working towards establishing a unified campaign structure at both the national and state levels, with governors expected to oversee campaign activities in their respective states.
He said while Wike could express his views freely, the APC was unhappy with his description of its governors.
“We cannot stop Wike from speaking the way he does or saying whatever he wants. But as a party, we resent that kind of comment.
“We are not happy with the way he called our governors, and I’m sure Mr President will not be happy either,” Farouk said.
The APC chieftain also questioned Wike’s claim that he had discussed or reached an arrangement with President Tinubu regarding his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Farouk said APC members were not aware of any such arrangement and urged party members to avoid engaging Wike in public exchanges over the issue.
Wike has maintained that his Rainbow Coalition is designed to support Tinubu at the presidential level while allowing opposition parties to field candidates against APC candidates in governorship and legislative elections.
